New testimonial from Andrew A.

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

“We came across this new accountancy company by sheer fluke, after our previous accountant had personal problems which meant we were forced, reluctantly, to look elsewhere to get our accounts done. Viola dealt with us personally from start to finish. She is extremely knowledgeable and is able to explain what is a highly technical and (let’s face it) pretty boring subject in a way which is easy to understand without being condescending. Her charges are on the cheap side of abundantly reasonable and she is a very likeable and conscientious person who will set deadlines and meet them. Doing this year’s accounts was no hassle whatsoever and we hope to have a very long and fruitful association with A+ Accounting. We will highly recommend this accountancy firm to our clients.” Andrew A.

New testimonial from Dora S.

“I have chosen Viola as she has excellent knowledge in this field. She is extremely helpful and has a positive approach to any problems that occur, especially as she had to come over to Jersey to help me.
She is friendly and enthusiastic and always has a smile on her face no matter how big or small the problem.
I would recommend her to anyone, she has been a fantastic help (and still is!!)” Dora S.

New testimonial from Andy C.

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

“I’ve chosen Viola because of her friendly and very helpful approach and because I thought that because of our young age, she would be a good match for our business needs, and would understand us better. She has been a lot of help while setting up our partnership, 1st Point Electrical, and she has given us the lowest possible quote for the hardest very first year. It is a huge help to pay in standing orders too, and because we know we can phone her any time it gives us peace of mind, and relief that we’re not alone with any problem we may have. I would recommend her to anyone, she’s been an amazing help.” Andy C.

Restrictions on use of home claims

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

From the 1 January 2010 the Guernsey Income Tax office has decided to implement restrictions on businesses using their home as office and wishing to claim for allowance. Now to be able to make a claim the business use of the room has to be added to the home insurance cover and the States Cadastre Office needs to be notified about the business use of that room, as the Tax office will require copies of these documents as proof.

If it is not a separate room that is used for business purposes, the claim will be likely to be disallowed.

If there is a separate room used as office there will be more restrictions, like letting the Tax Office know how many hours per week it is used for the business purposes, also allowing for holidays and time off.

Further to these restrictions it will not be beneficial for most small businesses to calculate and claim for this expense, however if you feel you would still like to go ahead with claiming, A+ Accounting will make sure you are advised on an annual basis as part of the annual accounting process.

Minimum wage in Guernsey

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

If the States approves the proposals next month, most residents will be entitled to a minimum wage of £6 an hour from 1 October this year. This will mean that everyone aged 19 and over will be paid at least £6 per hour and anyone aged over 16 would be entitled to an hourly rate of £4.25.
This change could cause a problem to some small businesses where the industry wage level is inherently low at the moment. The answer to these problems is often redrawing the business plans and possible restructuring.

If you would be affected by these changes but not quite sure how you will be able to cope with the increase in payroll costs, A+ Accounting is the perfect help for you. I can advise you on changing or re-doing your business plans, preparing a cash flow forecast to monitor what impact this change would have on your available cash, and how it could be kept under control.

New AML Regulations

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

The Guernsey financial Services Commission has announced amendments to the Regulatory and Anti-Money Laundering Legislation. As per these amendments now all accountants, estate agents, legal practices and fiduciary practices will now become prescribed businesses under the Regulation and so they will have to register with the GFSC and be fully compliant by the 4th of October this year.

To clients this will mean that they will have to comply with Client Due Diligence requirements by providing certified copies of passports, utility bills, and previous names and addresses. It will also mean that customers will possibly be subject to a lot more questions and explanations when dealing with a prescribed business.

A+ Accounting is also required to comply with the above Regulations, but I will make sure the additional administrative requirements will not be a lengthy process for my clients and will be the least hassle as possible.
