Wednesday, January 5th, 2011Guernsey Registry duties for companies
Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010That time of the year is upon us again, and however it has been a couple of years now with the new registry system, a lot of small companies still have difficulties with submitting the Annual Validation and optional Audit Waiver Resolution online. So I thought I would put a quick guide together for those who need to refresh their memories.
Open your internet browser and type in: www.greg.gg in the address line (or click the link here).
Sign in with your login details in the top right corner of the screen.
Click on “Create Submission” under “My Submissions” on the left.
Choose “Annual Validation” from the list. You will need the Company Registered Number and Company PIN after agreeing to the terms.
On the next screen headed “Company details” you need to check if they are all valid and then click “Verify details”.
On the “Share Details” part of the next screen you need to put in the details that were true as at 31 December 2010. Or if you’ve done an Annual Validation in 2009 and none of the details have changed during 2010 you now have the option of just clicking the “Import details from 2009 Annual Validation”.
Tick the declaration and click next to submit and pay the fee.
To file an Audit Waiver Resolution you will first of all need a company waiver resolution prepared and signed by the shareholders before the end of the previous year. This you will need to scan and save on your computer.
When the resolution is ready open your internet browser and type in: www.greg.gg in the address line (or click the link here).
Sign in with your login details in the top right corner of the screen.
Click on “Create Submission” under “My Submissions” on the left.
Choose “Resolution” from the list.
Enter the Company Registered Number and click “Verify”.
Make sure all the details displayed are valid.
Choose the date of the Resolution, the Resolution Group should be “Waiver”, and the Resolution Type should be “Audit Exempt”.
Upload the scanned resolution file from your computer and click Next.
Enter the Company PIN, click “Validate” and submit the file and pay the submission fee.

Restrictions on use of home claims
Saturday, May 29th, 2010From the 1 January 2010 the Guernsey Income Tax office has decided to implement restrictions on businesses using their home as office and wishing to claim for allowance. Now to be able to make a claim the business use of the room has to be added to the home insurance cover and the States Cadastre Office needs to be notified about the business use of that room, as the Tax office will require copies of these documents as proof.
If it is not a separate room that is used for business purposes, the claim will be likely to be disallowed.
If there is a separate room used as office there will be more restrictions, like letting the Tax Office know how many hours per week it is used for the business purposes, also allowing for holidays and time off.
Further to these restrictions it will not be beneficial for most small businesses to calculate and claim for this expense, however if you feel you would still like to go ahead with claiming, A+ Accounting will make sure you are advised on an annual basis as part of the annual accounting process.
Minimum wage in Guernsey
Saturday, May 29th, 2010If the States approves the proposals next month, most residents will be entitled to a minimum wage of £6 an hour from 1 October this year. This will mean that everyone aged 19 and over will be paid at least £6 per hour and anyone aged over 16 would be entitled to an hourly rate of £4.25.
This change could cause a problem to some small businesses where the industry wage level is inherently low at the moment. The answer to these problems is often redrawing the business plans and possible restructuring.
If you would be affected by these changes but not quite sure how you will be able to cope with the increase in payroll costs, A+ Accounting is the perfect help for you. I can advise you on changing or re-doing your business plans, preparing a cash flow forecast to monitor what impact this change would have on your available cash, and how it could be kept under control.
All you need to do is to pick up the phone and call me!
